Linux: My Ongoing Quest for a desktop system that doesn't spy on me.

My ongoing quest to break away from micro-you-know-who to Linux, the open source system software continues.
My incentives are simplicity and privacy. You see, my personal privacy isn't something that should be offered to
me as a gift in increments by a software system.
That's how I choose to view it anyways.
As the main system in use on pcs today is totally invasive and probably suspect as far as government data mining
thru backdoors, I choose to find another "way" to go in Life and Computing.
I prefer to be upbeat and positive about the changes that need to be made and which can be made. But,
if you really want to know the Truth about what kind of software is "out there" and what it's capable of
read this software ad.
Trying to find a useful substitute on a desktop platform is a bit scary for a non-geek type like myself. But,
there has been some good news lately.
Could Ubuntu be "it"?
All hail Ubuntu!
Could this be the saviour system I've been looking for?
I've been drawn towards "Linspire" which uses Ubuntu and now that Dell Computers is supporting Ubuntu and even
installing it on some of their machines, I think the tide has turned in favor of desktop linux.
Linux is the standard for servers that the ISP's use as reliability is most important.
Well, I feel the same way about my personal computing too.
It's been slow coming, but, I think we may finally be at that point where folks don't want to upgrade to the
latest micro-you-know-who system with it's flaws and updates.
I'm ready. So, I'll be looking more closely than ever at this alternate to "Big Brother" system software. If
you're interested, you can go to Linspire or Ubuntu for more information.
By itself the Linspire operating system costs only a little and has more capabilities, but, another
version called Freespire is available for FREE as are Ubuntu downloads too.
Here's an article called "Don't Fear the Penguin" that leads you step by step through the process of adapting to a Linux
operating system.
You can presently buy a $199 1.6Ghz tower computer with Linspire installed at SEARS. That's a heck of a great
start it seems to me. - George
