When the 2007 Index of Economic Freedom results came out and they were enlightening and
informative as usual.
The Index of Economic Freedom ranks and measures 161 countries using 10 different
measurements of economic freedom.
I can tell you that the top ten in order of Economic Freedom for 2007 were:
-
Hong Kong
-
Singapore
-
Australia
-
United States
-
New Zealand
-
United Kingdom
-
Ireland
-
Luxembourg
-
Canada
-
Switzerland
The United States came in 4th place when it came to economic freedom; behind Hong Kong,
Singapore and Australia.
This ranking was surprising to most as we were all taught that where we live is the best and
"free'est" place on Earth. That's the standard salesjob sold to most of us anyways.
Well, the last few years have been an ordeal and even the most optimistic observer of freedom
should have come to suspect that something had shifted in this country (and in many others as well).
Voila! UPDATE: The 2009 Index of Economic Freedom Country List is now available
and the United States has dropped down to 6th place.
By clicking on the links for each country, you'll see the ranking of the 10 types of economic
freedom that comprise the overall index.
The results, though startling, shouldn't be a surprise to those of us who watch current events and
politics.
It's quite an achievement and this kind of loss of freedom took relentless hard work from the
sub-demons in government in service to their Dark Lord and Master. Nice job fellas.

Remember, that economic freedom is only one measure of your Natural Rights. We'll explore how some
of your other inalienable Rights are faring in today's increasingly socialized world in future articles.
All the best - George
